Resources for Increasing Loans and Improving Marketing Strategies Available

While small asset size credit unions continue to seek ways to increase lending and be heard in the marketplace, MCUL & Affiliates stands ready to assist with exciting ideas and training available to help overcome such challenges.

One outstanding resource is the upcoming Lending and Marketing Conference, taking place Feb. 12-13 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids. Offering both one- and two-day registration options, the highly-popular event brings nationally-known speakers together for a quality training experience that does not require expensive out-of-state travel. As an added bonus, attendees are welcome to choose training from either the Lending Conference agenda or the Marketing Conference agenda, mixing topics of interest to create a customized learning experience -- particularly useful for professionals from smaller credit unions who often wear multiple hats with many different responsibilities.

Industry consultant Pierre Cardenas will be delivering the Lending Conference keynote on "Trends Hitting the Banking Industry" where he will discuss major technology shifts taking place that will revolutionize the way consumers do banking, as well as present two breakout sessions on "Relationship Pricing/Lending" and "Strategic Lending Programs."

Well-respected industry marketing professional Mark Arnold will be on-hand for the Marketing Conference keynote on "Community Marketing With a Generational Twist" that will help credit unions explore their individual uniqueness and address how they cannot be all things to all people or all things to all generations. Arnold will also address attendees on the topics of "Building a Lasting Brand" and "Promotions 101 – Tear it Up" – a workshop where participants are encouraged to bring their own marketing materials for review and critique.

Two other resources available for credit unions to expand lending and improve their promotional efforts include select webinars offered in 2012 by Cardenas and Arnold, which are now available as a convenient Webinars on Demand.

The first, New Products to Serve Members & Generate Income, features Cardenas, who shares some ideal new products coming into the marketplace for credit unions to consider offering to members. Services such as online auto shopping that allows a new car to be purchased without having to step foot in a dealership one example. Other topics explored include opportunities to build native applications that make services easier to access, data mining tools and sales tracking systems, along with refinancing programs that can deliver great value to members as well as generate income.

Offering great products is just the first piece of the puzzle though, and savvy credit union professionals understand the importance of effective product marketing. The Webinar on Demand, How to Write Great Copy - Tips for Snappy Advertising, features Arnold, who explores why successful marketing requires successful writing and offers tips to take the drudgery out of writing by learning secrets to great copy. From ads to flyers to web sites to brochures and other printed material, listeners will find practical tips to help improve this critical marketing function.

Coming up in 2013, credit unions will find even more relevant training to expand lending, such as the audio session, Identifying Loan Opportunities, being offered on Jan. 31. The session will help credit unions understand why loan volume may be below expectations, how to address and resolve the issue and offer internal and external assistance for loan generation.

Webinars and audio sessions available from MCUL & Affiliates are generally priced between $99 and $169, with special discounts and multiple-purchase savings on compliance topic webinars. Plus, webinars include complimentary archives and are also available post-event as Webinar on Demand recordings for just $129 per session, which may be downloaded to a CD, hard drive or flash stick to save and share with multiple staffers. Over 90 Webinar on Demand topics are currently available, with more being archived throughout the year.

Credit unions who register for the Lending and Marketing Conference by Jan. 25 save by paying just $310 per person for full conference registration and $169 per person for one-day; after this date registration is $360 and $199 respectively.
