Extra Credit Union Awards $10K in Grants to Local Schools
From field trips and sports uniforms to English-language-learning tools for Ukrainian refugees, Extra Credit Union’s 2023 School Employee Grant funds will be helping to make a lasting impact for youth in our community for years to come.
Extra Credit Union’s School Employee Grant has been helping support “extra” needs for local schools and classrooms for 12 years — with funds totaling $120,000.
“We know that often times there isn’t enough funding in the budget for some of these out-of-the-box ideas, projects, activities or even sometimes much-needed classroom materials, and we have been happy to be able to help fill in the gaps over the past several years,” said Ruthann Varosi, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Extra Credit Union. “In some cases, the experiences these grants bring are the game changers for the students—the activities, field trips or fun tools used in everyday learning that bring a lesson full circle.”
Extra Credit Union awards $10,000 in grants annually, which will fund eight projects this year. We are proud to announce this year’s School Employee Grant recipients:
- Mary Ann Gruda — Immaculate Conception Schools — $1,910 to purchase 10 subscriptions of Rosetta Stone for Ukrainian refugee students.
- Erik Rothenhauser — St. Anne Catholic Grade School — $2,000 to purchase new basketball uniforms for student athletes.
- Megan Baranski — Roseville Middle School — $500 to purchase large games to be used during lunches such as large Jenga, Cornhole and more.
- Michelle Keeran — Center Line High School — $1,033 to purchase items needs for a printmaking entrepreneurship project in art.
- Angela Gilchrist — Fitzgerald High School — $551 to purchase 50 yoga mats for Yoga Fitz which will take place after school for students interested.
- Rebecca Mulligan — Fitzgerald High School — $820 to fund a field trip for the FHS Drama students to see Legally Blonde at the Fox Theatre.
- Joe Haynes — Center Line Public Schools — $1,200 to start an after-school food program for students in the Center Line Public Schools District.
- Kathleen Saunders — Van Dyke Public Schools — $2,000 to purchase a new wood podium and headsets/microphones for the Van Dyke Public Schools auditorium.
