CU Champion: American 1’s Dylan Savage Loves a Good Challenge

savEarlier this year, American 1 Credit Union made an internal promotion, moving Dylan Savage from an assistant branch manager role to branch manager at the organization’s Chelsea location.

He started at American 1 as an operations trainer, then moved into member service before his time as an assistant branch manager.

“Dylan is a valuable asset on the American 1 team,” said Carolyn Duncan, chief member experience officer for American 1. “His dedication to the company, our members, and our team is apparent every day. It’s been an honor to witness Dylan’s growth at American 1, and I am excited to watch him take on this new challenge in our Chelsea community.”

Savage said he was drawn to American 1 because of their commitment and focus on the communities that they serve.

“I love the idea of local money, staying local,” he said. “Plus, our company's core values of ‘focus, engage, achieve, trustworthy and humbly confident’ make American 1 a great place to work and grow your career.

Savage brings to the role extensive financial industry knowledge, as well as extensive organizational knowledge.

“My time in the industry has been filled with continual professional and personal growth,” continued Savage. “I am lucky to have worked with a wide range of individuals and hold many different roles. I love a good challenge and learning new things.”

At American 1, branch managers are responsible for quality member experiences and oversee day-to-day operations in their branch, including hiring and retention strategy, employee development, lending and product sales coaching, member growth and expense control.

Savage said he’s particularly excited about the employment development in his new role, being a mentor and advocate for colleagues.

“Helping them reach their individual goals, professionally and personally, is a point of pride for me,” he added.

When asked if he’s had a mentor along the way, Savage called out Chala Lott, branch manager of American 1’s home office.

“Her knowledge of the industry and the management position runs very deep. She invested a lot of time and effort into my success, and I would not be half the manager I am today if she was not a part of my journey,” said Savage.
