MCUL’s Advocacy Team Starts 2025 in DC to Discuss Priorities with Congressional Delegation
Last week, MCUL Director of Federal Advocacy Todd Jorns was in Washington, D.C. to attend the congressional swearing-in events for members of Michigan’s congressional delegation. While there, Jorns met with the delegation’s offices to discuss the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL)’s federal priorities for 2025.
The various swearing-in receptions attended provided an excellent opportunity for credit unions to build and elevate our relationships with delegation members and their staff.
One of Jorns’ messages focused on credit unions’ tax status. With Congress set to introduce and pass major tax legislation in 2025, MCUL believes it’s important to remind our federal lawmakers that any changes to the credit union not-for-profit tax status would be inadvisable.
Jorns also communicated the burdens that certain regulations are placing on credit unions and their members as the new Congress and incoming administration explore ways to roll back some of the regulations put in place by the previous administration.
America’s Credit Unions’ 2025 GAC, coming early March, will afford Michigan credit union advocates with further opportunities to discuss credit unions’ not-for-profit tax status, how Congress can help credit unions by eliminating short-sighted, burdensome regulations and other priorities.
MCUL’s advocacy team looks forward to seeing you at the GAC in a few weeks!
