Exciting Developments for MCUF in Early 2026
As the new year begins, the Michigan Credit Union Foundation is launching a fresh season of impactful programs designed to empower credit unions and enrich Michigan communities. The MCUF’s mission remains steadfast; to cooperatively support financial well-being through community enrichment, financial education, and credit union development initiatives. This year’s strategic plan sets ambitious goals for expanding the reach and impact of credit union initiatives statewide.
One of the first opportunities in Q1 is the Michigan Enhanced Financial Counselor Training Program (FiCEP) which last year helped certify over 200 new financial counselors. The 2026 program will again offer robust training, including webinars, study resources, exam prep, and virtual group sessions. MCUF funding ensures this training remains affordable – or even free – for Michigan credit union professionals, with scholarships available for small asset-sized credit unions. Those enrolled in America’s Credit Unions Training Bundle can access FiCEP at no additional cost.
Financial education for youth also takes center stage with the Smart Money Kids Read program. This year, credit unions can request copies of “How Do You Spend?” by Cinders McLeod, a book focused on spending, needs vs. wants, and opportunity costs for grades pre-K through 2nd. Thousands of books will be distributed through libraries and credit union events, accompanied by bonus activities and supplemental materials. Registration for both FiCEP and book requests open in January, with resources available on a first-come, first-served basis.
In 2026, MCUF is investing in several exciting updates and opportunities. The Financial Reality Fair program will benefit from significant app enhancements. Young professionals will see expanded support through FUEL, and new scholarships for professional development – including NCUF Development Educator Training. These initiatives are designed to strengthen the next generation of credit union leaders and provide meaningful growth opportunities across the state.
As MCUF moves into 2026, the Foundation invites credit unions to engage, apply for grants, and participate in statewide programs that advance financial well-being for all. For more information or to get involved, visit MCUF.mcul.org or reach out to MCUF Executive Director, Andrea Tucker.
