Community Unites to Fight Hunger at Detroit's 9/11 Day of Service
Hundreds of volunteers gathered in Detroit on Sept. 11 to pack 233,000 meals for individuals and families facing food insecurity. Vibe Credit Union, a lead sponsor of the event, was represented by 40 team members.
Officially recognized, 9/11 Day is now America’s largest day of service, with more than 30 million participants nationwide. Across 21 cities, including Detroit, volunteers gathered this year to support local communities in need.
Vibe was a sponsor for the very first Detroit 9/11 Day event at Wayne State University. The meals packed during the event will be distributed by Forgotten Harvest to families facing food insecurity across the metro area. Vibe’s participation in this event demonstrates its ongoing commitment to fighting hunger. In 2024 alone, team members have contributed over 1,400 volunteer hours across 18 nonprofit organizations dedicated to alleviating food insecurity.
“We are proud to be part of such an important event and deeply committed to supporting our local community,” said Stephanie Leahy, foundation and community engagement director for Vibe. “By coming together on this day, we honor the spirit of service and ensure that those in need are cared for.”
