Crain’s Detroit Names Genisys CEO a 2024 Notable Nonprofit Board Leader

genGenisys Credit Union CEO Jackie Buchanan has been named a Notable Nonprofit Board Leader by Crain’s Detroit Business. The recognition highlights her leadership as Board Chair at Lighthouse, a nonprofit dedicated to alleviating poverty and homelessness.

“It has been an incredible honor to work alongside CEO Ryan Hertz and the dedicated team at
Lighthouse,” said Buchanan. “Together, we are tackling the barriers that keep individuals and families in a cycle of poverty. This recognition by Crain’s is a testament to the collective efforts of the board, staff, and partners working together to make a difference. My sincerest thank you to all, including my credit union team, who have given their support to the work being done by Lighthouse.”

Crain’s recognizes individuals who are “titans of industry and community service.” Understanding the power of diverse backgrounds, these individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their board roles; leveraging passion and skill to provide strategic direction, secure funding, and more to the nonprofits they serve.

As CEO of Genisys Credit Union, Buchanan brings her expertise in strategic planning, financial management and community engagement to the Lighthouse board. With her leadership, Lighthouse has deepened its impact in the community. She has been a strategic driving force in the development of Lighthouse and its initiatives including the guidance of their merger with South Oakland Shelter (SOS) in 2019, support through the pandemic and most recently their “Lighting the Way” campaign -- a campus redevelopment project to alleviate poverty in Oakland County and beyond.
