2023 CUNA GAC: NCUA's Hauptman Discusses Economy and Priorities

National Credit Union Administration Vice Chairman Kyle S. Hauptman spoke today at the 2023 Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., where he discussed his regulatory priorities, which include revamping the de novo chartering process, modernizing NCUA’s transparency and feedback, and harnessing the power of blockchain technology and digital assets. Vice Chairman Hauptman also discussed the economic outlook and noted that credit unions performed well in 2022 and have healthy capital levels.

However, the Vice Chairman stated that the credit unions should monitor the auto lending market, which has seen stress as inflation and interest rates have increased. Finally, the Vice Chairman noted credit unions’ critical role in financial education and in improving their members’ financial well-being.
