Lake Trust Foundation Awards 5 Scholarships for High-Demand Careers
The Lake Trust Foundation, an independent entity of Lake Trust Credit Union, recently announced the recipients of the 2023 New Beginnings Scholarship and the 2023 Michigan Impact Scholarship. Both scholarships were designed to support Michigan residents furthering their education and pursuing careers in growing and high-demand industries.
“Lake Trust’s scholarship program has had a positive impact on the wellbeing of our local communities over the years by supporting numerous Michigan residents on their educational and professional journeys,” said David Snodgrass, president of The Lake Trust Foundation. “With our support, these individuals will be able to explore their academic interests and get one step closer to achieving their professional goals.”
“The Foundation’s scholarship program was established to help expand access to educational opportunities to Michigan residents and pave a path for future leaders to meet their career aspirations and goals,” said Amanda Huszti-Vickers, community impact manager and executive director of The Lake Trust Foundation. “We have awarded a cumulative total of more than $1.7 million to Michigan residents since 2013, supporting them on their journey to financial wellbeing.”
2023 New Beginnings Scholarship Winners
Four recipients were awarded the 2023 New Beginnings Scholarship — a $7,500 scholarship that can be used to pay for tuition costs, trade equipment, professional dues and certifications. The New Beginnings Scholarship was established to support Michigan residents considering furthering their education or career in high-demand technical or trade fields—such as electrical, HVAC, construction, welding, plumbing, nursing and more. The 2023 recipients are:
- Amelia Campbell of New Boston – Amelia is studying aviation maintenance and working toward her A&P license at the MIAT College of Technology and hopes to become an aircraft mechanic.
- Elaina (Lain) Earl of Grand Rapids – After working as a nurse tech/certified nursing assistant for 10 years, Lain will be continuing their nursing studies at Montcalm Community College to take their career to the next level.
- Logan Hagerty of Laingsburg – Logan will be attending Lansing Community College to earn his associate degree and will pursue a career in welding engineering.
- Austin Wright of Dimondale – Austin is working toward his associate degree in HVAC technology at Lansing Community College. After graduating, he plans to complete an additional 2,000 hours of training to get his mechanical license.
2023 Michigan Impact Scholarship Winner
Created in partnership with Cleary University, the Michigan Impact Scholarship was established to provide a tuition-free educational opportunity to new students beginning their undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Cleary University in Fall 2023. Special consideration was given to applicants enrolling in programs that help meet the state’s high-demand careers through 2030, as the opportunity is focused on strengthening Michigan’s talent pipeline and bolstering the local economy.
This year, The Lake Trust Foundation awarded one full-tuition scholarship to Summer Morrill of Three Rivers. Summer will begin her freshman year at Cleary University this fall, continuing her studies toward earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Project Management. After graduation, Summer plans to use her project management skills to find new ways for people and communities to connect with one another.
