Community Choice Foundation 2024 Scholarship Program Open to Applicants

Community Choice Foundation is now taking applications for its 2024 Scholarship Program. This program empowers local students to achieve their dreams while remaining in Michigan.

Each year, Community Choice awards has awarded 25 scholarships for a combined total of $100,000 for students throughout the state of Michigan. Students can apply for scholarships to continue their educational careers within Michigan at universities, in skilled trade programs and as part of continuing education curriculum.

To date, the Community Choice Foundation Scholarship Program has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships for high school students and young men and women in statewide communities since 2009. Scholarship recipients are expected to excel both in the classroom and their local community, with an emphasis on community involvement.

When a student receives financial support, they are pledging to use their education to Give Big™ in Michigan by living and working in the state after graduating or completing their vocational training. Scholarships help offset rising tuition costs for students of all ages.

The Foundation is the charitable arm of Community Choice Credit Union. Its Scholarship Program received interest from more than 2,500 applicants in 2023. To qualify, applicants must live in Michigan, plan on attending a Michigan college or university, and pledge to stay in Michigan after college. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required along with a strong record of volunteerism or public service. Recipients are encouraged but do not have to be members of Community Choice Credit Union.

Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic performance, community involvement, a short video and essay describing how they plan to contribute to their community and Michigan through their chosen career.

“We’re proud of the fact that our Scholarship Program has expanded to include monetary assistance for students pursuing a skilled trade or other types of available continuing education to support their careers,” said Community Choice Executive Director Kevin McAlpine. “We recognize the tremendous number of opportunities and various paths available to students who are committed to achieving their career goals and contributing to our great state.”
