LMCU Celebrates its 600,000th Member
Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) hosted a celebratory event at its Alpine Avenue branch in Grand Rapids to welcome its 600,000th member to the credit union. The event, attended by members, staff, board members and local media, marked a significant milestone for LMCU, the largest credit union in Michigan. LMCU has experienced continuous and substantial growth over the last decade, having celebrated its 500,000th member only three years ago in the spring of 2021.
The 600,000th LMCU member, Asad K., and his wife, Ashley, were met with a surprise celebration upon their arrival at the Alpine Avenue branch on May 6. CEO Julie Leonard and Chief Retail Officer Sara Kemperman congratulated the member and presented them with a check for $6,000.
When asked why he joined LMCU, Asad replied, “For us, it was the chance to join a credit union. We were referred to LMCU by a friend who told us all about Max Checking, and the benefits were hard to pass up. We drive by this branch all the time so it’s really convenient.”
Reflecting on the event, Leonard expressed her gratitude, saying, "It is quite an honor to personally welcome our 600,000th member and celebrate this milestone surrounded by members, staff, and the community. LMCU is celebrating 90 years of serving the Grand Rapids and West Michigan communities, and I want to thank our members for always trusting us with their financial goals and decisions. A big thank-you to our talented staff as well for their passion and dedication that make everything we do for our members possible."
LMCU Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer Don Bratt emphasized the credit union's commitment to its members, stating, "As we grow, we keep our focus on putting our members first in everything we do. Our 90-year legacy and 600,000 members across Michigan and Florida truly emphasize the impact we are able to have on our communities, providing opportunities for more people to earn more on their money and pay less on their loans."
