Lake Trust Foundation Awards Scholarships to Students Pursuing High-Demand Careers
The Lake Trust Foundation has awarded five scholarships to Michigan residents advancing their education in high-demand fields through its New Beginnings and Michigan Impact scholarship programs.
According to the foundation, the scholarships were created to help reduce financial barriers for students pursuing careers that support Michigan communities and strengthen the state's workforce.
“Each of our recipients has a unique story and clear vision for how they want to use their education to make a difference,” said Brandalynn Winchester-Middlebrook, EVP, chief people and purpose officer at Lake Trust Credit Union and treasurer of the Lake Trust Foundation. “By investing in their goals with these scholarships, we are not only providing them with meaningful support to continue their education, but also equipping them with the resources they need to contribute to their communities and local economies through their work.”
The foundation awarded four New Beginnings Scholarships, each valued at $7,500. The scholarship supports individuals pursuing skilled trades, technical careers and other high-demand professions.
The 2026 New Beginnings Scholarship recipients are:
- Seunghun (Ted) Pyeon, of Potterville, who is completing an apprenticeship at Ann Arbor Electrical JATC and working toward becoming a master electrician.
- Elijah Smith, of Pinckney, who is pursuing a degree in automotive marketing and management at Northwood University with plans to grow his small business.
- Rosa Brondyke, of Brighton, who is completing an electrical apprenticeship through Ann Arbor Electrical JATC and hopes to mentor future tradespeople.
- Wajeeha Ahmed, of Madison Heights, who is pursuing a nursing degree and plans to serve patients as a registered nurse.
The foundation also awarded its Michigan Impact Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship offered in partnership with Cleary University for students pursuing careers identified among Michigan's high-demand occupations.
This year's recipient, Lucille Bosn of Brighton, is pursuing a degree in business communication at Cleary University. Following graduation, Bosn plans to attend law school and support businesses in her community through legal services.
“The cost of education can be a significant barrier to individuals continuing their education or looking to make a career change,” said David Snodgrass, president and CEO of Lake Trust Credit Union and president of the Lake Trust Foundation. “These scholarships help ease that burden and support students on their journey toward financial wellbeing, giving them greater freedom to focus on their education and build valuable career skills all while strengthening the future of Michigan’s workforce.”
